Sherry Serafini's Sensational Bead Embroidery Book Review

Voted a Top 10 Teacher by Bead and Button magazine, beadwork artist Sherry Serafini shows how to create 25 stunning pieces to wear in her latest book.

Along with examples and close-up images of each project, the patterns in Sherry Serafini's Sensational Bead Embroidery design and craft book are laid out with a complete supply list, instructions, and ways to finish or embellish the pieces. This book is one of the many available in the Beadweaving Master Class series published by Lark Crafts.

Beginning with the Basics, Ending with Ideas

Bead embroidery uses a thread and needle to sew the different stones, small objects, and buttons into different shapes that are surrounded by beads. Sherry Serafini does a great job in detailing the basic stitches used, such as the two-bead backstitch, single-bead edging, and how to close beads around another object such as cabochons or buttons. Advanced embellishments such as different fringes and loops are illustrated showing the steps.

This book contains some pretty elaborate pieces such as neckpieces and collars. Experienced crafters will appreciate the many inspirational examples in the Gallery chapter at the back of the book containing different colored photos of what can be done with bead embroidery. For those just beginning to dive into the bead embroidery craft world, the book's beginning chapters are a resource for basic materials, tools and supplies.

Sensational Bead Embroidery Overview and Chapters

As stated in her introduction, author and designer Sherry Serafini stirs the imagination with bright and colorful examples of the finished works, and gives details on how to change the designs to create unique pieces. The first two chapters of the book introduce the reader to the art of bead embroidery with Basic Materials and Tools and Stitches and General Techniques.

The next three chapters go into greater detail with all kinds of functional and decorative jewelry. The Art Adorned chapter showcases vintage and modern cabochons, and ways to use your unique pieces into beaded jewelry. The Natural Wonders chapter focuses on earthy colors and Native American and Southwestern art. Gotta Have Bling! is all about sparkle with designs using gems, crystals, and metallic beads.

Sensational Bead Embroidery: Recommended For Experienced Beaders or Beginning Inspiration

The designs are truly show stopping, and some use the templates and layouts that are included in the book for the design. Advanced beaders will appreciate the close-up views. But while the book has incredible photographs of the finished pieces, it is also a book to give inspiration to those just beginning this craft. Using the basic techniques in the beginning of the book and the detailed instructions, projects are laid out from easy to more advanced as the book progresses.

This book is appropriate for all levels, but some of the jewelry pieces are geared for advanced beaders. Any level of bead embroiderer will love her many examples of past work, and the work of others. A thorough look at all the jewelry pieces show the reader just what can be accomplished with a simple needle and thread and different craft beads, both old and new.
